Sailing to the Vestmannaeyjar Islands

Old harbour of Keflavik, from where we made several trips inland

Almost near a spring tide, more difficult to reach the boat during low tide...

... and also during high tide :-)

Evening stroll along the coast

Not the best choise of material...

Short visit in downtown Reykjavik

Visiting more than 15 silver jewelry stores

Going for a hike to the Reykjadalur hot spring river

Many (too) hot springs along the path

Fascinating bubbling springs

Hot water flowing down the creeks

Early in the morning - almost alone there

Nice soaking in the 35-40°C warm thermal river

Visiting sheep

Fishing along the locals - there are huge schools of mackerel - every day more than 2'000 pieces are fished

Only after five minutes of fun fishing - the mackreles (tuna family) are real fighters

And again the next day :-)

Finally heading off to the south - first four hours on engine

Strong current against small waves...

Wind picking up; fast sailing with 20-23 knots of wind and little waves

Heading into the night and towards the Vestmannaeyjar Islands

SAR boats and a helicopter an a mission due to a red flare - they asked us several time if we had seen something and also could look out

Approaching slowly the narrow and dark harbour entrance

Beautiful next day but not for long...

...the next strom is already heading toward us

Concealed cruise ship - to big to enter the harbour. On the worst days there are three of them, flooding the town with people

Going for an evening walk on the islands highest mountain

Huge piles of fishing nets

Climbing up to the top of the hill

And to our harbour place

View to mainland and the glaciers

Ferry approaching the narrow harbour entrance on high speed

Galieo (TV-show) declared this iseland the loneliest one earth...

Quiet sunset

Gulls playing in the dying wind

Even from here the new volcano can be seen

The next mountains, whose ridge we plan to cross the next day

Cuddle sheep - already on the way up it stood in our way and wanted to be stroked

Heading back to the boat

Amazing wall paintins all over the town
