Shetland and still no better weather

Heading off in strom winds towards Shetland

Passing several oilplattforms. They are growing in numbers all over the northsea

Always some light, the sun settels only for three ours

Oil platforms light up like christmas trees

Wind droping on the second day - nice and calm sailing

Arriving in Lerwick, the main town, just before strong winds were back

Strolling through the small town

Visiting a fishing-nets factory...

... to buy strong ropes, fives times cheaper than in yacht suplier

Waiting in an anchorage to cross the dangerous Sumburgh race with the tide

Calm waters around Sumburgh - the tide runs with 3 knots - fortunatels with the wind and swell. Otherwise the sea would be white and the waves breaking...

Heading into Scalloway - the next save place for the next passing low pressure system

Nice and quiet pontoon - one other boat, a small fishing vessel

Hiking over the island - sheps with their lambs every where

Curious lamb, that went chasing a rabit

? Sheep washing system ?

Sea urchins, eaten by birds

Small Shetpland ponies,- they roam free in big parts of the island.

Always wanting to be caressed

Hiking trail, but without a trail...

Vast land and only few houses

Whole Shetland is inhabitet by a population of 23'000

Seal and seagull looking for fish

Sadly, plastic waste on every beach

Women rowing team, going out in strom winds

Next low pressure system heading our way

Fortunately staying at a very well protected place with no waves

Next day hiking to the southern islands of Scalloway

One of many double beaches

If only the water wouldn't be so cold...

Oystercatchers

They can be found over the whole island

A great skua looking for prey - rare and aggressive bird
